Lloyd Kaufman, head of Troma Entertainment, really has outdone himself with this book. He covers everything from working with actors to financing your film, and he does it in a very fun, enjoyable way. I had a blast reading this book, and found it very, very, very, very, very informative.

Lloyd Kaufman details the ups and downs of filmmaking on a budget and countless vital lessons learned during the boom of film's modern era...the age of home video. Filmmaking and distribution has morphed into a different animal (like Manimal) during Troma's 32 years of "Reel" independence. This book will not only teach you what NOT to do, but also inform you of the essential madness and risks it takes to make your own damn movie. The Make Your Own Damn Movie DVD box set is also essential, but only if you're over 18...nothing is censored...life and filmmaking as ugly as it gets.

Just as Troma Films are a creative alternative to the doldrums of mainstream cinema, this Lloyd Kaufman book is essential reading for filmmakers who get little out of dry academic texts. A wittily written series of personal experiences on various movie sets, Kaufman's book enlightens as much as it entertains. Most highly recommended.
