A nice walk down memory lane Rating:

Just what I needed! Fun, quick recipes that WORK! A bit dated, of course, but still.
A definite favorite! Rating:

It's amazing that all of the previous reviewers of this book have had such similar experiences with it as we have. My wife picked up a copy several years ago, before we were married, and we were surprised at how good it is. We also used it until it fell apart, but were lucky enough to find a second copy at our local used bookstore. I actually came here hoping to find a "sequel."Whenever we're at a loss for what to cook for dinner, we turn to this book. The recipes are delicious, use only a few ingredients (which we often have around the house), and are quick and easy to prepare. Also included are illustrations that make techniques (like splitting a cornish hen) less intimidating, as well as charts (like ideas for marinades) that will inspire you to create your own recipes. We also bring the book when we're vacationing somewhere that has a kitchen. We can pick out a few recipes and know we will end up with a short shopping list of easy-to-find items. And they come out great without fail.
Excellent, basic cookbook, with bonus '80s nostalgia! Rating:
5 / 5
This is a terrific, basic cookbook, with simple-but-tasty recipes for almost any "normal" food you'd want to make, plus many more exotic things. But none of them are TOO exotic -- every ingredient in the book is something you'd be able to find at the smallest grocery store in the country. (For example, the hummus recipe suggests peanut butter as a substitute for tahini.) The photography is thorough and attractive, and now has the added bonus of showing table settings in a charmingly retro 1980s style! If this book gets reprinted, or if you find a copy at a used bookstore, buy it for yourself or as a gift for a new graduate. It's the perfect "first cookbook" for a young person, especially a young woman.
