Storybook Treasury of Dick and Jane and Friends (Dick and Jane)
Book: Storybook Treasury of Dick and Jane and Friends (Dick and Jane)

traumatically simple

These books were inflicted on me in second grade. The 'stories' are so boring that they made me cry! Perhaps they're appropriate for toddlers, perhaps. As a parent and as a 'once upon time' child, I would recommend Dr. Seuss books for beginner readers.

Guesswork rules
Rating: 1 / 5
I can't believe so many people love these books. The stories are really dumb and without pictures would make no sense. They do not teach a child to really read. It is just memorizing the way words look. My daughter loves "reading" Dick and Jane because she just has to look at the first letter of the word and make a guess. Since there is a super limited vocabulary, she is usually right. She can really read only a few other words. If you really want to foster a reader, try a phonic approach.

Look look look. This is fun fun fun

See the baby boomers read read read. They remember Dick. They grew up on Jane. They still like Baby Sally. They still run run run with Spot. They still love love love Puff. Go down down down to the store and buy this book. Go up up up to your room to read it. See how fun it is to go back in time. Buy this book for your 50 something friend's birthday. He/she will say thanks thanks thanks. There are three books under one cover .. count them, one two three. Did you learn to read with Dick and Jane? I did which means I must be getting old ... old old old!
