Another wonderful novel in the Murder She Wrote series of books! In this outing, Jessica Fletcher has been invited by a friend from Cabot Cove to accompany him and his fellow Track and Rail Club members on a train trip through scenic British Columbia. The trip is almost derailed, however, when the club president is poisoned to death aboard the train. Alvin Blevin was not very popular with most of the club members and as Jessica and Vancouver Detective Christian Marshall soon discover, any one of them may have had a very good reason to murder him!
Mr. Bain has loosely fashioned this particular mystery on Agatha Christie's classic tale "Murder on the Orient Express." And what a delightful mystery it is! One of the most appealing features of this series for me is not only the mystery itself and Jessica's attempts to find out "who dun it" but also the marvelous descriptions that Mr. Bain provides of the various locales where his novels take place. His descriptions of the ride aboard the Whistler Northwind and the landscape of British Columbia will have the reader feeling as though he or she is actually along for the ride. It inspired me to do a bit of research and I found that the Whistler Northwind was indeed an actual passenger train that ran tours from Vancouver to Prince George, BC before going out of service at the end of 2002. This mystery will appeal not only to fans of the television series but to model train enthusiasts as well. Or anyone who simply wishes to enjoy a good cozy mystery while riding the rails! A very enjoyable read!

As a member of a train group, this mystery hit close to home. I enjoyed it greatly as I have with all the other Murder She Wrote mysteries. The best thing about the book is the way the author wrote it in Jessica Fletcher's authentic voice. If you've ever watched Murder She Wrote, Jessica has a very distinct way of putting things, and the way she acts. This is all continued in the books. This was probably one of the better MSW books, as I had a difficult time figuring out who done it. There was a MSW special on TV about 10 years ago with many of the same plot twists and turns about a train murder (only this one was set on an Amtrak train). Pick this up for a good mystery read which may on the surface look like an easy simple mystery, but is much deeper.

This new mystery will have all Murder She Wrote fans up reading until the wee hours of the morning. I enjoyed this book immensely and was sad when the story ended. The characters in this tale will have everyone guessing on who the perpetrator really is. I was wrong every time, if that says anything. As Jessica Fletcher gets older, her knack for solving crime is still in tact. There is a scene on the train that Jessica will never forget. It's a life and death situation as she stumbles upon different clues to unravel who is behind the ghastly murder. As the series chugs forward, the plots get stronger and unforgettable. "Destination Murder" is no exception. Don't let this mystery pass by.
