The Twelve Days of Christmas : A Pop-Up Celebration
Book: The Twelve Days of Christmas : A Pop-Up Celebration
Written by: Robert Sabuda
Publisher: Little Simon
Average Customer Rating: 5.0 / 5

Awesome Pop-Ups
Rating: 5 / 5
I bought this for my daughter when she was young and it was slightly torn up. But now she's 5 and she asked if we could replace it because she loves how the pop-ups are so cool!

A definite keeper!

He changed the order of the gifts!!
Rating: 3 / 5
We received this book as a gift last Christmas. As with all of Sabuda's books, it is brilliantly executed and beautiful. There is just one problem, which completely spoiled the book for me (but maybe not for you): he changed the order of the objects in verses 9 to 12. The original has 12 Drummers Drumming, 11 Pipers Piping, 10 Lords a-Leaping, and 9 Ladies Dancing. Sabuda instead has: 12 Lords a-Leaping, 11 Ladies Dancing, 10 Pipers Piping, and 9 Drummers Drumming! What gives?! For me, this was a complete deal-breaker. I find I cannot even open up the book, it bothers me so much. And I can't understand the point of changing the order. Perhaps there are different versions of the song that have come down to us, and Sabuda chose a less common "version"; but I don't think so.

I love the white against the colored backround: EXQUISITE
Rating: 5 / 5
I know some folks like a lot of color, but there is something amazingly elegant about that pure white paper set against the colored page.

I have only one comment. The last page of the book contains the 11 ladies dancing and the 12 pipers piping. The 11 ladies dancing is fantastic. The twelve pipers piping was a little disappointing; especially given that they are next to the extraordinary music box.

Perhaps the pipers should have been done in color instead of grey, or maybe the Christmas tree ornaments should have been various colors to give them a little more of that Sabuda flair.

That said, get the book. It is worth every cent.
