Hearts Desire (Thorndike Large Print Americana Series)
Book: Hearts Desire (Thorndike Large Print Americana Series)
Written by: Gwyneth Cravens
Publisher: Thorndike Pr
Average Customer Rating: 5.0 / 5

One of the best books I have ever read....and re-read....
Rating: 5 / 5
I found this book in a used book store several years ago and have been searching for other books by Gwyneth Cravens ever since. "Hearts Desire" takes place in New Mexico during the early 1960's. The main characters are women: a mother, a daughter, and a daughter-in-law who become involved as they go through death (of a father), the draft (of a brother), and desertion (of a husband and son). All three women tend to try and see things in the best possible light (despite reality) but gradually are forced through circumstances to see life as it is, and therefore be at peace with themselves and each other. Gwyneth Cravens portrays the Western landscape in words that make one feel as if one has already been there (I know because I read this book before I ever visited New Mexico). This book should not be out of print - get it if you can find it, and read it - it is wonderful
