The Accidental Vegan
Book: The Accidental Vegan

A Most Frustrating Experience
Rating: 1 / 5
Ms. Gartensetin gives incomplete directions for cooking. She gives vague instructions on purpose, stating in her introduction, "I figured these recipes would be more useful if I let you plan some things for yourself, and develop your own system."

Useful? It is not useful to spend an hour standing over a stove stirring something, "until it thickens" not sure if the stove is at the right setting because the recipe did not specify a cooking time or heat.

I am not a vegetarian, but I am trying to make better choices for my health, for the sake of the animals and our planet. Ms. Gartenstein's book (with many time consuming recipes) only made me long for more familiar foods that do not require so much strategy and are not such a hassle to prepare.

I think if some one is an experienced or gourmet who can figure these things out they will be okay. Also, if a person doesn't work outside the home, he/she has time to "develop a system." These types of people will probably enjoy the book. But if you are not very experienced, and prefer foods that are simpler to prepare, her book will be VERY disappointing.

One of the easiest

I found this book and at once decided to buy. It is the easiest vegan cookbook I've run across. The recipes are tasty, and most require 12 or less ingredients, which is a big difference from most veggie and vegan cookbooks. I have made many of the dishes (love the curry and dahl recipes) and continue to pull this book off the shelf instead of all the others I have to choose from. I strongly recommend this great book.

this is great!

i love this cookbook. it is not overly big but the recipes cover the bases. ingrediant lists are concise and easily read. her approach to cooking is also very relaxed - you can tell she rarly, if ever, stresses in the kitchen. for me, this book was a breath of fresh air , good vegan recipes that are easily made. most of the ingrediants are easy to find, although you might need to visit a specialty store for some items.
