Kay's Phantom
Rating: 5 / 5
This book was given to me as a gift.
I have never read the original but now after reading this author's input of the phantoms past Im curious to read the original.
This book gives a full history from Erik's birth to his death. I've read some of the reviews where they said it was too graphic in certain scenes. I dont think it was toooo bad at all. I rather liked most of the attention to detail. No matter what bad things happened to Erik he never lost the innate good part of himself despite his circumstances.
The last part of the book was a bit dragged out.
I also read somewhere that the original Christine wouldve never had sex before marriage but she didnt, not really. When Raoul was rowing her back to her place after the last phantom scene he noticed she didnt wear his ring and that she was hiding her finger. She gave Erik the one thing he had always wanted before he died, love.

I really enjoyed this book. I would highly recommend to ANYONE. Its definitely not meant for young kiddies, though.

A great biography of "The Phantom"!!!!!
Rating: 5 / 5
I am so happy this book has been republished. I was lucky enough to find a copy of it at my town library, but I wanted to own it for my Phantom collection and the prices were out of sight last year. Now you can buy it and read it, and hopefully love it too. I have become quite an expert on The Phantom of the Opera since I saw the film version of the play. Please, see the movie if you haven't done so. It is a visual rococo painting come to life with all of Lloyd Webber's great music. Susan Kay has done a wonderful job telling us who the Phantom is, from his birth to a widowed Mom, the development of his genius in so many fields, to his life under the Paris opera house and his obsessive love for the beautiful Christine Daae. The ending is very poignant and is a beautiful way to end The Phantom's tragic love story. As an obsessive Phantom Phan, I love this book, and Frederick Forsyth's, The Phantom of Mannhattan, another marvelous tale of what could have happened between The Phantom and Christine. Buy them both and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!! And get a copy of the movie too while your at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Phantom Lives!!!!
Rating: 5 / 5
Though I read this book about a few years ago, I am really greatful that it has come back into publishing. This is a very wonderful book that should not be kept away from any Phantom fan or any avid reader. This book is wonderfully written with such passion...it is so good that one might mistake this book as the original novel of the Phantom, but of course it is not. Susan Kay portrays Eric as the fallen angel that he is ought to be. Anybody who reads this book would automatically fall in love with the angel of music and would greatly appreciate that Susan Kay did not ruin the Phantom's image with just another fanfic.
